Manyoshu - Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves - is the oldest (c759) and most revered anthology of Japan a poetic compilations. Manyo is an abbreviation of Manyosyu and its meaning indicates people of all ranks. In Japan along with the Gregorian calendar, it is common for people to also use the year in era names base on the reign of Emperor. In May 2019 the name of the era was changed from Heisei to Reiwa which is the 248th era from the year 645. Reiwa is the first era to be chosen from a traditional work of Japanese poetry. The era name means beautiful harmony and is based on the poem from Manyosyu. The Sailor Manyo inks are special colors designed by master ink blender.
Manyosyu is often regarded in Japan as a true expression of the Japanese spirit, the themes of the poems relate to love, elegies, nature, the seasons and so on. Flowers are especially relevant in Japanese culture and about 1500 the poems in Manyosyu cover some 160 species of plants.
