Product Description
One of the most coveted Targas is the distinctive FRED Force 10 model, introduced in February 1992. This unique pen was created in collaboration with the bold Paris-based jeweler FRED. FRED Joaillier was established in 1936 at 6 rue Royale, Paris, by Fred Samuel, and the company name is indeed written in all caps! According to the company’s history, Samuel had a passion for sailing, which inspired the introduction of the Force 10 line of jewelry in 1966, themed around nautical elements. On the Beaufort Wind Force Scale, Force 10 signifies storm force winds that create very high, cresting waves, representing a highly challenging and dangerous sea for sailors.
The metal cables in the Force 10 line are intricately woven from up to 1,500 metal threads, mimicking real marine cabling. Over time, this rugged design concept was extended to various personal items, including belt buckles, watch bands, fabric designs, and, of course, this pen line. The FRED Force 10 pen continues this legacy with its thick, bold spiral guilloche pattern, cut lengthwise with fine straight engraving. This creates waves of facets that rotate around the barrel, sparkling due to the bright, mirror-like palladium plate finish. The pen beautifully captures the sturdy marine cable aesthetic that has become a hallmark of the Force 10 collection.
